The updated version now offers the CG0600 with a Shimano 8 Speed Drivetrain

Tenways recently released a new version of their CGO600 city commuter, the CGO600 Pro-C. The C stands for ‘Chain’, as this version essentially takes their original CGO600 (which we reviewed in June of last year) and updates the bike to now include an 8-speed Shimano drivetrain.

From the press release, it appears that the bike will be very similar to the Pro-E version, with the main difference being the drivetrain. The CGO600 Pro-C will come with the following specs:

Max speed: 20 MPH C9 350W, 45Nm torque rear hub motor 36V, 10Ah (360Wh) battery (which can be easily removed for charging) Shimano 8-speed drivetrain Front headlight, rear light for safer riding at night Tektro Hydraulic disc brakes Four different color options – Avocado Green, Pebble Grey, Midnight Black, and Sky Blue IPX 4 water-resistance (battery is IP 65 water resistant) CST 700*40C tires (puncture resistant) Aluminum alloy fenders 6061 Aluminum frame, 308.6 lb max load rating Adjustable stem

We like the adjustable stem, as this makes it easy to adjust the bike to your preferred geometry

The easily removable battery is a nice touch on a city commuter, especially for those needing to charge the bike inside their apartment

We expect the motor to perform similar to the model we tested in 2023, which was smooth and quiet

We will be getting the bike in for a full test and review early next month, and we are excited to see if there are any other small upgrades that don’t stand out on paper but add to the performance. It’s been a year since we reviewed the belt drive version, and everything other than the drivetrain appears to be the same.

Tenways has been a brand that has impressed us with the few bikes we have reviewed. Alongside the CGO600 Pro-E, we’ve reviewed their AGO-T, AGO-X, and CGO800S, and have found them all to be thoughtfully designed.

Their will obviously be a difference in performance between the Carbon Gates belt drive version and the 8-speed version, but we expect the biggest advantage of this newer version to be noticed when climbing hills.

The belt drive version did ok on our hill test, climbing Hell Hole in 1:44. That was behind other city commuters like the Aventon Soltera, Trek FX+2, and the newly released Ride1Up Roadster V3 and Velotric T1ST+.

Of course, that’s to be expected from a single gear bike. The manufacturer has to try to balance the bikes performance on flats vs hill climbing, there is just no way around that. As such, if your someone who has a lot of hills to climb, your probably better suited off with the new chain version of the CGO600 Pro

Of course, adding a drive train does add some maintenance to the equation, so if you don’t have a lot of hills to climb, or you enjoy more of a fitness ride when climbing hills, then the belt drive version is still a fantastic option.

Again, we’ll be getting the bike in to pedal it through our full testing here soon, so stay tuned for the in-depth review. In the meantime, if you have any questions that you want us to address in that review, leave those in the comments below.
